Hey, bulldogs my name is Emanuel and you're reading the One of One blog. Today I’m here with Dr. Tolulope Filani and what went into building the sculptures in the Smith Hammond Middleton Legacy Plaza.
The sculptures are of three young men who were killed during the Orangeburg massacre, which was a shooting of student protesters that took place on February 8, 1968, on SC States campus. Dr. Filani has been a professor at SC State for over 18 years.

After being at the university for a while, Dr. Filani realized he didn’t see much art on campus, and he decided to do something about it. He decided to build sculptures of three young men, that were killed on the night of the massacre.
